The client: A manufacturer of highly specialized measurement products that delivers solutions to end customers through a network of resellers.

The challenge: Resellers knew and liked the manufacturer’s measurement instruments, but they struggled to integrate these instruments into the complete solutions required by end customers because of the technical knowledge required to select appropriate complimentary products from other OEMs.

The solution:  When the client decided to leverage their knowledge of solution design, supply chain efficiencies, and market power on behalf of resellers by selecting appropriate products to compliment their offering, they tapped iData to develop a private label e-commerce and knowledge portal that would:

• Provide detailed, easily searchable information to resellers about assembling complete solutions that integrated the client’s products with those of other OEMs,
• Allow the client’s marketing staff direct access to publish the complete range of marketing and sales materials resellers would need to take this solution to market with end customers as well as provide frequent updates as the program developed.
• Provide resellers a workspace in which they could develop and save details about custom solutions using the new products.

The portal was designed to leverage existing e-commerce infrastructure and allow products to be ordered through existing back-end systems.  The client negotiated discounts with OEMs and was able to add a margin onto their prices and still offer resellers much more competitive pricing than they could negotiate on their own.

The results: Within two months of launching the system, the client’s profit on sales through this channel had paid for the cost of the entire program.  Resellers report increased customer satisfaction and improved competitiveness.
