BOE Custom Web Development
The Cuyahoga County Board of Elections is responsible for carrying out elections within Cuyahoga County, including registering candidates, providing polling places, and tabulating and publishing results.
Publication of election results promptly after they are tabulated is a critical function of the board of elections. In 2006, due to the massive interest of local, state and national media in Cuyahoga County election results, the Board had experienced delays in making results available online because the existing Board Web site was unable to handle the traffic it experienced on election night. For the 2008 election, in which interest was expected to be even higher, the Board required an updated site that would allow for seamless publication of results as soon as they were tabulated. The Board also required a range of enhanced services for county residents, including the ability to create custom results pages that would show only the contests users were interested in, the ability for voters to check registration and polling locations, and the ability to download and review ballots before going to the polling place.
iData worked with staff of the Cuyahoga County Information Services Center to convert the BOE site to use the Synapse Publisher® CMS, and iData worked with ISC to develop several custom .NET applications for the BOE site, including a “my registration” portal which allows voters to check their registration, find their polling place, view their ballots and confirm their participation history.
The redesigned BOE site functioned without a hitch for the 2008 and subsequent elections, and BOE staff are also now able to update election, voter and candidate information themselves without assistance from programmers.
